Project: Vanity Fair

blogpost4pic1

When I was little, I used to cut paper.

Like, all the time.

According to my parents, for awhile I was a little obsessed with it.

I don’t remember a whole lot about it, but I do remember that I loved making those paper snowflakes and folding paper into all sorts of different shapes. There was just something magical about unfolding that paper snowflake for the first time and finding out what all those little snips and cuts looked like.

So the other day, I discovered how to make these paper stars.

I’ve made three so far, out of the last pages of an old copy of Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray from the free table. (it took me forever to get up the gumption to actually tear up the book… it felt so wrong at first)

To me, they look more like flowers than stars, but flower or star, they’re pretty and delicate either way.

So now this has got me inspired by paper again… what other cool things can I do with the pages of Vanity Fair?

Here’s what I’ve found so far:
*paper cranes

*paper lanterns
*lucky paper stars

I think this will become an ongoing project of mine… Project Vanity Fair: to use all the pages of this book for artsy, un-booklike purposes, and of course blog about it. Care to grab an old book and join me?
